Charles is an experienced leader in the non-profit world, having served for more than three decades with international NGOs working on five continents. He brings a practical and strategic approach to organisational development, combined with a learning attitude.
From 2004 to 2009 he was based in Jerusalem, working in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory as National Director for World Vision International and was also elected Chairman of the Association of International Development Agencies. Previously he was Group Chief executive of the London-based Shaftesbury Housing Group, one of the UK’s largest social care organisations, and before that he worked in the fields of leadership development and civil engineering.
Charles now directs Oxford Leaders, an organisation which supports non-profit organisations in their governance and leadership development; he has assisted in course development at Oxford Brookes University; and in April 2015 he was appointed Chair of Trustees for CMS, a global mission agency founded in 1799. He continues some of this work alongside his role as Chief Executive of the PTCF, each of them being part time.
